In an earlier blog post, we reported on the potential public liability problems that some freelance members of the entertainment technicians’ union BECTU were facing. Well, the union has now announced that it has improved the group public liability insurance offering.
The issue had centred on who was responsible for providing insurance cover for equipment in a freelancer’s ‘custody and control’. Now, from the beginning of May, the union’s policy will provide cover of up to £25,000 for any one claim and an aggregate total of £100,000 in any one period. These figures relate specifically to ‘custody and control’ cases; in general, the union’s policy provides public liability cover of up to £5m.
